FAQs.
What is Co-Active Coaching?
The Co-Active Coach® Training program is the ONLY coach training program based on the Co-Active Model, a tried-and-true approach that provides a powerful process for engaging with others and is supported by current scientific research. It has been hailed as the “Gold Standard” by the Institute of Coaching, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, CTI practice is underpinned by the belief that the client is naturally creative, resourceful and whole, and completely capable of finding their own answers to whatever challenges they face. The job of a Co-Active Coach® is to ask powerful questions, listen and empower to elicit the skills and creativity a client already possesses, rather than instruct or advise.
Is coaching actually for me?
If you’re stuck somewhere you’ve been for a while with no clear path forward, then I’d say yes, coaching can be your route out. In today’s world, we don’t often get the chance to be in a moment, where we are the only focus. We don’t get to really ask ourselves the questions that matter and get the answers that will gift us a more rewarding life. There’s just too much going on, or we don’t know where to go for help. This is that help. If you want a better understanding of what really matters to you and then a plan to bring it into reality, then coaching can be the transformational answer.
What are the typical issues people come with?
The central them is normally that something in their life is causing them strife, frustration or a general feeling of “blah”. This can show up at work, doing a job that doesn’t motivate them. It can be relationships that cause upset and that they don’’t know how best to manage. It can be a struggle to find the motivation to make big changes they believe would be positive. Often the problem a client comes with, isn’t actually the fundamental issue that needs addressing - but it’s a good starting point for our work together.
Are sessions online or in person?
For the time being, sessions will all be online. I’ve worked with clients this way for a long time and it allows us to connect from anywhere in the world (with good connection!). It also saves you travel time and allows you to sit in a space you feel comfortable with.
What kind of commitment will be expected of me?
To get the most out of coaching, you’ll be expected to turn up with an open mind, a willingness to be vulnerable and have challenging conversations. There will be practical “homework” to do between sessions and you'll get out what you put in. You can’t make changes using the same thoughts and behaviours that got you to where you are now, so know that you will need to put in effort to make positive change!
What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?
Therapists are trained to work with their clients mental illness. Their work is generally past/present-focused and often includes exploring their clients history to identify trauma which has led to dysfunction.
Coaches works with the healthy person who is here right now. Taking who you are in this moment as your “neutral” and helping you live a more purposeful life. It’s very much future-focused. Changing ingrained behaviours that are holding you back, identifying goals that truly resonate and creating plans to achieve them.
